Mr. Coelho’s unique vision developed at the confluence of the Old World and the New. Born and raised in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, the photographer as a young boy was surrounded by the art and architecture of the region’s colonial past. But it was the bold modernism of legendary Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer that truly inspired Coelho. And for a time, he enthusiastically pursued a university degree in architecture. But then came the camera and though its lens, Coelho discovered the ability to create his own striking compositions.   

Now, some 30 years later, Mr. Coelho has become an award-winning editorial, commercial and fine art photographer who not only went on to meet and eventually photograph the great Niemeyer, but many other notables as well including Frank Gehry, Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, Ry Cooder, Malcolm McDowell and Jeff Bridges.  Based in Los Angeles and Brazil, his corporate clients have included Honda, Yamaha, Pioneer, Toyota, The Recording Academy, HBO, Earthlink, Wells Fargo Bank, City National Bank, McDonnel Douglas, United Airlines, California Lottery, The Weather Channel, The Los Angeles Times, Nissan, Sony Pictures, Fox Television, Los Angeles Times, Roland Keyboards, United Colors of Benetton and Braille Institute. His work has been featured in Graphis, Camera Arts Magazine, Luerzer's Archive and numerous other books and magazines, annual reports, ad campaigns, and service organization publications.

Mr. Coelho’s photographs are often described as sharing an evocative, almost surreal quality, imbued with a certain intrigue and mystery. His work is marked by a strong sense of lighting and composition and the ethereal, dreamy feeling he elicits from diverse subjects. His clients call him for an unusual look or a different perspective on the mundane.
